Critical thinking is an important element in all fields of management . A good manager must possess the ability to make snap decisions to handle any given situation. No one person is born with the skill of critical thinking. It is a learned process. As we grow we learn to be observant. From there we learn to recognize problems and start to formulate how to solve the problems. Then we gather information and learn to prioritize the information in order to distinguish how important the problem is to the situation. Next we draw generalizations and form conclusions. Finally we reach a solution. Whether the solution is correct becomes a matter of opinion, with a high chance for failure. However, when we learn how to think critically, we significantly improve the chances for success. The process of critical thinking involves three major steps. The careful acquisition of information, the interpretation of that information, and the use of logical analysis enables a manager to reach a well-justified conclusion. Critical thinking employs logic and broad intellectual criteria. Things such as clarity, credibility, precision, relevance, and depth become important tools for critical thinking. Being able to follow reason and a systematic approach to problem solving, inquisitiveness, even-handedness, and confidence in our reasoning can also be learned. Once learned, these tools can help a manager make decisions quickly and effectively.
